A delineator is a flexible traffic safety device that separates pedestrian and vehicle traffic, guides vehicle movement, and enhances safety at median edges. Made from TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), delineators are flexible and break-resistant. This material ensures they do not damage vehicles and remains durable even after repeated impacts.

What are the Standard Sizes of a Delineator?

Delineators are available in standard heights of 30 cm, 45 cm, 75 cm, and 100 cm. The most commonly used models have an 8 cm pipe diameter, though 9 cm and 10 cm options are also available. A larger diameter increases the amount of material used, enhancing the delineator's durability.

What Colors Are Available for Delineators?

Delineators are available in a variety of colours. The most common and widely preferred colour is fluorescent orange, which provides high visibility and is an effective warning signal. Other available colours include black, white, yellow, blue, and green, often chosen for aesthetic preferences.

Reflective Collars and Its Features

The number of reflective film rings on a delineator depends on its height:

• 30 cm: 1 reflective collar
• 45 cm: 2 reflective collars
• 75 cm: 3 reflective collars
• 100 cm: 4 reflective collars

Reflective films come in Engineering Grade (Type-1) and High-Intensity Performance (Type-4) varieties:

  • Provides high nighttime visibility
  • Flat surface appearance

Proper adhesion of the reflective film to the delineator is crucial. The choice of engineering grade or high-performance reflective tape affects the product's price and quality.

How to Assess Delineator Quality

When choosing a delineator among various manufacturers, consider the following key factors:

• The material composition should strike a balance between flexibility and strength—too rigid, and it may break easily; too flexible, and it may lack durability.
• A higher TPU content enhances overall quality and longevity.
• Material thickness and weight contribute to the durability and stability of the delineator.
• Reflective bands should be firmly attached and made from high-quality, long-lasting materials to ensure visibility and effectiveness.

How to Install a Delineator

Delineators have three or four mounting holes at the base for installation. They can be secured to asphalt or concrete surfaces using anchors and self-tapping screws. The recommended materials for installation include:

• 16 mm plastic anchor
• 10x100 mm self-tapping screw

Chemical epoxy may be used in specific applications to strengthen adhesion.
