What Is a Lightbar?
A Lightbar is a warning device used on vehicles such as police, gendarmerie, fire brigade, rescue, ambulance, funeral escort, road maintenance, and private security vehicles to ensure they are noticed while moving in traffic. It is securely mounted on the vehicle to prevent it from falling during movement. These devices are fixed onto vehicles either with screws or high-strength magnets. Depending on the need, they may feature only lighting or both lighting and sound functions. LED Lightbars are the most commonly produced type today, offering stronger illumination and a longer lifespan.
Types of Lightbars
Lightbars are categorized as Full-Size Lightbars, Mini Lightbars, Cylindrical Warning Lights, Beacon Lightbars, and Vertex Lightbars. Full-size lightbars are mounted on the front section of a vehicle roof. Their lengths vary depending on vehicle width, generally ranging between 110 cm and 145 cm. These products are commonly preferred for police, fire brigade, rescue, ambulance, and funeral vehicles. Depending on the vehicle type, they are manufactured for either 12V or 24V electrical systems. Mini lightbars are produced in sizes ranging from 30 cm to 70 cm and can be used either alone or together with full-size lightbars. Cylindrical warning lights have a cylindrical form and were widely used on police, fire brigade, and ambulance vehicles in the past. Today, they have largely been replaced by long-type LED lightbars. Cylindrical warning lights are currently used mostly on road maintenance vehicles, garbage trucks, snowplows, and street sweeping vehicles.
Beacon/Vertex lights are also cylindrical in shape and are used as magnetic lightbars mounted on top of vehicles. Powered through a cigarette lighter socket, Vertex lights may also feature rechargeable batteries, allowing them to operate for extended periods without requiring an additional power source. The device includes indicators that display battery status.
There are domestic manufacturers of lightbars in Türkiye, and these brands are generally preferred due to their product quality and after-sales support services.
Lightbar Prices
Material and manufacturing quality are the main factors determining price. Although imported low-cost products are available on the market, public institutions and private sector users generally prefer locally manufactured products. Durability is especially important for products such as Recovery Vehicle Lightbars and Fire Truck Lightbars that are used continuously in field operations.
Siren & Public Address Systems
The lightbar siren function is provided through siren and public address systems. These siren-announcement devices can also be used independently. Different siren sound modes can be provided. During lightbar installation, the siren device is connected as well, ensuring synchronized operation between the two systems.
